On 13 February 2024, the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India introduced the PM Surya Ghar – Muft Bijli Yojana.


With an allocation of over ₹75,000 crore, the scheme aims to provide financial assistance through capital subsidies, facilitating the installation of rooftop solar panels and granting up to 300 units of free electricity every month to approximately 1 crore households across India.

Eligibility Criteria


All Indian citizens above 18 who own a house with a suitable roof for installing solar panels are eligible to apply for the PM Surya Ghar Yojana scheme. Additionally, the household must possess a valid electricity connection and should not have previously availed of any other solar panel subsidy.


Application Process


Here is the step-by-step process to apply for PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana:


Step 1: Register on www.pmsuryaghar.gov.in with state, electricity company, consumer number, mobile, and email.


Step 2: Log in using the consumer number and mobile number and fill out the application form.


Step 3: After feasibility approval, proceed to install the solar plant with a registered vendor from your DISCOM.


Step 4: After installation, submit plant details and apply for a net meter.


Step 5: Following the installation of the net meter and DISCOM inspection, you will receive a Commissioning Certificate.


Step 6: Submit bank details and a cancelled cheque on the portal. The subsidy will be credited to your account within 30 days.
