RenewSys is proud to announce that it has been recognized as a “Top Performer” in the prestigious PV Module Reliability Scorecard by PV Evolution Labs (PVEL), a leading global authority in solar module reliability testing. This achievement is a testament to RenewSys’ unwavering commitment to quality, innovation, and long-term performance in the rapidly evolving solar industry.

What Makes PVEL Recognition Special?

PVEL’s Product Qualification Program (PQP) is widely regarded as the industry’s most rigorous independent testing regime for photovoltaic (PV) modules. It is designed to replicate decades of field exposure and stress. Modules are subjected to extended and combined sequences of environmental, mechanical, and electrical tests that far exceed industry requirements. For example, PVEL’s protocol demands 600 cycles—a threshold that is far higher than other tests. Similarly, the PVEL damp heat test requires 2,000 hours, and the hail test uses larger ice balls at higher velocities. To be named a “Top Performer,” a module must show extremely low levels of power degradation after each test—a threshold that is far more demanding than conventional standards.

Why Do These Tests Matter?

The significance of PVEL’s testing lies in its ability to reveal failure modes and degradation patterns. Real-world solar installations face challenges such as extreme temperatures, high humidity, mechanical stress, and potential-induced degradation over 25 to 30 years. PVEL’s tests are regularly updated to reflect technological advances and feedback from industry stakeholders, ensuring that the data remains relevant for today’s buyers and investors.

A unique aspect of PVEL’s approach is its focus on the bill of materials (BOM). Modules submitted for testing are factory-witnessed, ensuring that the exact materials and processes used are representative of commercial production—not handpicked samples. This BOM-level scrutiny is crucial because even small changes in materials (such as glass or encapsulant suppliers) can dramatically affect long-term reliability, as PVEL’s field and lab data have repeatedly shown.

The Importance of Independent, Rigorous Testing

Recognition as a PVEL “Top Performer” is more than just a badge of honor. It provides downstream partners—developers, financiers, and asset owners—with actionable, data-driven insights for procurement and risk management. In a landscape where over 30% of modules tested may fail to meet these high standards, RenewSys’ achievement highlights its position as a trusted and reliable partner in the solar value chain.

At RenewSys, we view this recognition not just as a validation of our efforts, but as a responsibility to continue raising the bar for quality and reliability in the solar industry. We are grateful to our teams, partners, and customers who have supported our journey. As solar technology advances and the world accelerates its transition to clean energy, rigorous, transparent, and independent testing like PVEL’s will remain essential in ensuring that solar projects deliver on their promises for decades to come.
